Known locally as “The Gib,” Mount Gibraltar Reserve is the highest point between Sydney and Canberra, offering panoramic views over the Southern Highlands. With its lookouts, bushland, and heritage-listed walking tracks, it’s a must-visit for nature lovers and sightseers.

What You’ll Experience

The reserve features a series of lookouts along the escarpment, each offering different perspectives of the region. From Bowral Lookout you can see across to Mount Gingenbullen, while Mittagong Lookout gives sweeping views toward the valleys and beyond.

Walking tracks wind through rare volcanic soil bushland, home to diverse plant species and abundant birdlife. Along the way, you’ll find interpretive signs sharing the mountain’s geology, history, and conservation efforts.

Whether you’re after a short stroll to a lookout, a longer bushwalk, or simply a peaceful picnic with a view, Mount Gibraltar caters to all. Photographers and nature enthusiasts particularly enjoy the sunrise and sunset light over the escarpment.

Getting There

Mount Gibraltar Reserve is located just 10 minutes’ drive from Mittagong Holiday Park, with easy access by car to parking areas near the lookouts. Walking tracks are well signposted throughout the reserve.

Why It’s a Must-See
